Queensland wrote its nights down.

In July 2026 the Queensland Government published the Nightlife Economy Action Plan 2026-2032, its response to Moonside, the first report of the state's Night-Life Economy Commissioner, John "JC" Collins AM. We were part of the consultation: our creative producer presented to the Commissioner's Advisory Panel, and Vast Yonder is named in the report.

The plan backs 41 of the Commissioner's 62 recommendations. Five matter most to a warehouse on state land at Northshore:

• Economic Development Queensland will "unlock the potential of underutilised public assets in Priority Development Areas" for events and culture.
• Existing venues get first-in protections when new development arrives nearby, with Liquor Act work slated for 2027-28.
• Sound rules move toward land-use zones instead of blanket residential limits.
• The Brisbane River gets a night-time brief, backed by a precinct program.
• Culturally significant venues get formal recognition.

Queensland's night-time economy turned over $37.6 billion in 2023-24 and employs 238,525 people. The government's stated path takes it to $47.7 billion by 2030, and it wants the growth "before, during and beyond 2032".

We opened this building with Economic Development Queensland in November 2023. 135+ events and 46,000+ attendees later, it is a working example of what the plan commits to. We intend to keep proving it.
