Team Indigenous Dreaming and Mana Tangata o Aotearoa meet on the track at Superordinary for a trans-Tasman celebration of First Nations and Māori culture, with roller derby, markets and music from 5pm.

Beyond the Bout brings roller derby, markets and music to Superordinary on Saturday 5 December, from 5pm. Brisbane City Rollers have partnered with Team Indigenous Dreaming from Australia and Mana Tangata o Aotearoa from Aotearoa New Zealand for what is believed to be the first trans-Tasman Indigenous and Māori cultural exchange of its kind within roller derby.

Team Indigenous Dreaming is an Indigenous roller derby team with skaters from across the Oceanic region, playing on the lands now known as Australia. Mana Tangata o Aotearoa is Aotearoa New Zealand’s Team Indigenous roller derby side. Players from both teams take to the track for the night’s game.

Around the game, the night is a public showcase of First Nations cultures, creativity, community and connection, with Indigenous art, music and cultural sharing, and a market of First Nations makers, artists and businesses.

Stallholders are wanted. First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Māori artists, makers, food vendors, businesses and cultural practitioners can register through the Beyond the Bout expression of interest form. The vendor area is outdoors with no power, so stalls need to be self-sufficient.

Beyond the Bout is presented by Brisbane City Rollers on Magan-djin, Yuggera and Turrbal Country. Tickets and the full program are still to be announced.
